About US

What we do

Lux Patrum’s mission is to promote the study of patristic and medieval texts by offering high-quality, original-language editions at an affordable price.

Our translations are of three kinds.

(i) Classic translations now in the public domain, such as Newman’s translations of Athanasius and Parker’s of Dionysius. These remain excellent English versions – and in some cases (for example, Athanasius’ Orations) are still the only available complete translations of the text.

(ii) Modern translations which we have secured permission to republish, such as Robert Milligan’s translation of Thomas Aquinas’s Disputed Questions on Truth, Jasper Hopkins’ translations of Nicholas of Cusa and Anselm, and Peter Simpson’s translation of John Duns Scotus’ Ordinatio. We currently have a team of about twenty scholars assembling Greek- and Latin-English editions in these first two categories.

(iii) New translations now in progress, including Cyril of Alexandria’s Thesaurus, Gregory of Nazianzus’ Theological Orations, Augustine’s On Christian Teaching, Severus of Antioch’s Catechetical Homilies, and others.
